ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The University of Indianapolis baseball team went on a seven inning scoreless drought and still won thanks to a costly error in the ninth on Saturday afternoon against Lewis in Romeoville. The win boosts the Greyhounds up to 7-10 overall on the season with a 2-1 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds gained the early advantage on the cold day by crossing three runs in the opening inning thanks to a pair of errors by the Flyers. Lewis would quickly answer in the bottom half of the third with three of its own to tie the game back up.
Â
Neither team was able to tally any runs until the ninth inning, which saw the Hounds grab the lead on the costly Flyers mistake. With the bases loaded and two out,
Zack Williams sent a high flying infield pop-up towards the pitcher's mound. Some confusion ensued on defense and three different Lewis infielders went for it which eventually led to it being dropped. All the baserunners were already running as the ball floated in the air and because of it two runs were able to score and the Hounds held strong defense in the bottom half to secure the win.
Â
On offense, the Greyhounds managed six hits in the contest led by the duo of
Brandon DeWitt and
Zach Fell who each corralled two apiece. DeWitt also earned the start from the bump where he tossed five complete innings allowing six hits and four walks while striking out two.
Brady Mundell and
Cameron Ginter each threw two complete to help close out the game.
