ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis Flyers scored five runs in the bottom half of the second inning to help sink the University of Indianapolis baseball team at Brennan Field in Romeoville on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Hounds fall to 7-11 overall and 2-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Lewis flew out in front with a two run lead after the opening inning of play. The Hounds answered an inning later on an RBI groundout by
Hunter Hughes, but the Flyers came out with force in the huge bottom half and tallied five across the plate to extend its lead.
Â
Despite
Brandon DeWitt corralling an RBI groundout of his own in the third and
Will Spear bringing home
Armen Torosian on a single up the middle in the sixth, it simply wasn't enough to make a comeback in the game as Lewis added on an insurance run in the eighth.
Â
On offense,
Alex Vela led the Greyhounds with two hits.
Kase Lawson earned the start on the mound and was eventually replaced by the quartet of
Wyatt Phillips,
Austin Bestul,
Chaney Morgan, and
Brady Mundell. Phillips tossed a team-high two strikeouts.
