Rivas Deals Double-Digit K’s Once Again in Friday Afternoon Victory

INDIANAPOLISXavier Rivas dished out 13 K's to extend his double-digit strikeout streak to three games this season as the University of Indianapolis baseball team overcame a one-run deficit in the eighth inning to take down Wayne State (MI) by a final of 5-3 on Friday afternoon.

With his performance at Greyhound Park, Rivas has now accumulated 36 strikeouts through just three appearances and 22 complete innings of work. He tossed 110 pitches this afternoon while allowing eight hits and walking just one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds began the game with the lead in the first inning off a Bo Minor single to left field that brought home a baserunner. Despite this, Wayne State was quick to answer with the equalizer in the top half of the second. However, UIndy regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Denton Shepler tallied an RBI off a single of his own.

The slim lead by the Hounds was short-lived as the Warriors tied things up once again off a fielding error that brought home a runner. WSU crossed another in the fifth but failed to extend the lead further despite having the bases loaded with nobody out.

It took the Greyhounds until the eighth inning to finally take back the lead which was never lost again. Drew Donaldson tied things up with an RBI single to right field which opened the door to Brandon DeWitt sending home two runs on an RBI single of his own to left field.

The Greyhounds brought out Alec Burnett to finish the ninth, where he picked up his first save of the season after notching a pair of strikeouts to finish the game strong for UIndy.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
