DeWitt Shines, Rivas Extends Strikeout Streak as Baseball Takes Both From Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – The University of Indianapolis baseball team picked up a pair of huge conference victories on Friday afternoon, defeating Quincy 3-2 in game one and 3-0 in game two. Entering today, the Hawks were riding a five game winning streak and sat above the field in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Blue Division. With both wins, UIndy jumps up to 17-19 overall and 9-7 in the GLVC.

DEWITT DOES IT ALL
Brandon DeWitt was terrific this afternoon for the Greyhounds, whether from the plate or on the mound. First, DeWitt tied for a team-high in hits (two) in both games while also adding a combined total of three runs scored. Then, he went on to pitch in game two where he was tabbed as the winning pitcher after tossing four complete innings of work with four strikeouts and only one hit given up.

RIVAS DOUBLE-DIGIT STRIKEOUT STREAK
Star left-handed pitcher Xavier Rivas earned the start on the mound in game one and recorded his eighth straight game this season of double-digit strikeouts. He went the full seven innings while recording 10 Ks, moving his pitching record to 5-0 on the year. With this, he has now notched a staggering 94 strikeouts this season through just 58-1/3 innings of work. His 94 Ks so far is now seventh on the all-time UIndy baseball single-season strikeout leaderboard.

GAME 1 | UIndy 3, Quincy 2
The Greyhounds found the scoreboard first in the contest by crossing a run in the opening inning on a wild pitch. However, the Hawks added the equalizer in the bottom half on a solo home run.

In the fifth, a Caleb Vaughn double to center field brought DeWitt around to score and helped hand UIndy the lead back. However, a solo homer in the bottom half by Quincy knotted action back up.

Finally, the Hounds brought in the lead for good in the final inning after Vaughn hit a clutch RBI fielder's choice. Rivas came out and shut Quincy down in the bottom half to help the Greyhounds secure the win.

GAME 2 | UIndy 3, Quincy 0
A Drew Donaldson RBI single to center field scored two runs in the opening inning and helped UIndy race out ahead in the second game of the afternoon. An inning later, the Hounds crossed another on an error by Quincy.

Neither team found the scoreboard the remainder of the way. A strong pitching effort from the quartet of DeWitt, Blake Sarjent, Brady Mundell, and Johnny Irish helped keep the Hawks scoreless. DeWitt went four complete on the bump and collected the win while the remaining three out of the bullpen all tossed one complete inning of work, with Irish collecting the save.
