Greyhounds Beat Quincy Again to Win Three of Four in the Series

QUINCY, Ill. – Despite losing in run-rule fashion in the first game of the series on Thursday afternoon, the University of Indianapolis baseball team battled back and won again over Quincy on Saturday, which means the Greyhounds have successfully taken three of four games from the Hawks in the series. With the win, UIndy now sits with an even .500 record on the year (18-18) alongside a 10-6 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds clawed ahead first in the contest with two runs in the opening inning. Alex Vela sent a double down the left field line that scored Brandon DeWitt all the way from first base. Then, Vela was eventually brought home on an Aaron Blake sacrifice fly.

The runs continued in the fourth with two more crossing for UIndy. Blake stepped up once again and produced an RBI, this time in the form of a double. Later, Blake was brought home on an Armen Torosian RBI groundout.

Quincy refused to go out easy, as the Hawks added a run in the sixth on an RBI single and another in the seventh on a solo home run. Despite UIndy corralling an insurance run in the eighth on a Caleb Vaughn sacrifice fly to left field, the Hawks would score one more in the bottom half of that inning on an RBI double to make it a 5-3 ballgame heading into the final frame.

In the bottom of the ninth, trailing by two runs, Quincy had the bases loaded with two outs. Freshman Austin Bestul stepped up big on the bump and delivered a game-ending strikeout to help the Hounds steal their third straight game on the road over the Hawks.
