CALDONIA, Mich. – Now winners of six of the last seven games, the University of Indianapolis baseball team opened a non-conference road series with Davenport on Friday afternoon by defeating the Panthers 9-1 at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. With the win, UIndy now holds a 19-18 overall mark on the season.

RIVAS STRIKEOUT TRACKER
Despite
Xavier Rivas having his double-digit strikeout streak snapped at eight games, it didn't stop the star lefty from sitting down six batters on just two walks and four hits given up in five complete innings of work on Friday to eventually eclipse 100 Ks on the season. He is now just the fifth Greyhound in program history to hit triple-digit strikeouts in a single season, the first since 2012. He is now tied with Seaborn Hillis (1956) for fourth all-time on the single season Ks leaderboard and currently holds a perfect 6-0 pitching record in 2022.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It took just the first two batters of the game for UIndy to take a lead in the opening frame. After a
Brandon DeWitt leadoff double,
Alex Vela stepped up next and hit a single to center field which brought in DeWitt. However, Davenport would add the equalizer in the second inning.
Â
Then, a big third inning by the Greyhounds played a key part in helping the team gain a comfortable upper hand. The scoring began when
Drew Donaldson tallied an RBI single to score a runner on third. Next,
Armen Torosian crushed a triple to left center with the bases loaded to add three more runs to the UIndy total. Finally,
Jared Bujdos brought Torosion home from third on an RBI single to cap off the eventful time at the dish.
Â
A pair of insurance runs for the Greyhounds came in the sixth and seventh innings when
Caleb Vaughn and Bujdos each tallied RBI singles to eventually lead UIndy to the 9-1 win.
