Strong Team Effort Helps Baseball Sweep Twin Bill Against Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The University of Indianapolis baseball team used an all-around team effort on Saturday afternoon to help in the eventual doubleheader sweep over Truman on the road. With the pair of wins, the Greyhounds now sit at 9-14 overall on the season with a 4-3 record in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

GAME 1 | UIndy 4, TSU 2 (7 innings)
Much like yesterday, neither team had much success crossing runs on offense as all six combined between the two squads came in the first and seventh innings.

A pair of UIndy home runs in the opening frame played a major part in helping make the win possible. First, Caleb Vaughn stepped up with his teammate Brandon DeWitt on first base and crushed a homer to left center field. This was the fourth of the season for Vaughn, which is now tied for a team-high. Then, in the very next plate appearance, Zack Williams took ahold of a ball and sent it over the left field wall for a solo shot and his second homer of the season. Truman lightly answered the call with a lone run in the bottom half.

Finally in the seventh, Adam Rakestraw stole third and was successfully able to advance home on a misplaced throw from the Bulldogs. TSU managed its other run in the bottom half but eventually couldn't cross enough to tie or win the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-The Greyhounds tallied a game-high eight hits while Truman had just five.
-The duo of DeWitt and Rakestraw led the Hounds with two hits apiece.
-DeWitt also went seven complete on the mound, allowing just five hits, two walks, and one earned run while striking out three.

GAME 2 | UIndy 6, TSU 3
Much like game one this afternoon, a first inning of scoring by both squads was eventually followed up by a handful of zeros on the scoreboard in return.

The Hounds got things started in the contest in the opening inning when Drew Donaldson managed a double to right center field that scored a pair of base runners. Not to be denied, Truman added one in the bottom half to cut its newfound deficit down to just one.

However, the sixth was when UIndy opened the floodgates and poured in four runs to roll away with the victory. Truman would add two in the bottom half, but it wasn't nearly enough. A Williams RBI fielder's choice, Armen Torosian RBI single, and Will Spear RBI single helped the Greyhounds cap off the doubleheader sweep on day two in Kirksville.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
-UIndy once again led the game with nine hits while Truman managed just seven in return.
-The trio of DeWitt, Donaldson, and Spear all led the team with two hits apiece.
-Donaldson and Spear each produced a pair of RBIs to guide the Hounds.
-Logan Peterson picked up his second win of the season from the mound after going 6-2/3 innings pitched while allowing six hits, four walks, and three earned runs while striking out two.
-Chaney Morgan came in to relieve Peterson in the seventh and successfully closed out the game.
