Greyhounds Best Lions, Hoist GLVC Championship Trophy

INDIANAPOLIS—The second-ranked UIndy women's lacrosse team captured the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference crown Sunday at Key Stadium. Led by a stifling defense, the top-seeded Greyhounds defeated two-seed and No. 8-ranked Lindenwood, 14-5, topping the Lions in the GLVC final for the second straight season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite facing the nation's second-highest scoring offense, the Greyhound defense played one of its best games of the season. The Lions came in averaging more than 18 goals for game but Sunday came away with just five, matching the lowest total in the program's 11-year Division II history.

The Hounds' two-headed brick wall in the net – Audrey Moran in the first half, Cassidy King in the second – combined to save 12 of Lindenwood's 17 shots on goal. Mekayla Montgomery paced the defense with four ground balls, while adding two draw controls and a forced turnover.

Offensively, the Hounds scored the first three goals of the game and didn't look back. Seven Greyhounds scored at least one goal, including five with at least a pair. Mackenzie Winn led all players for four goals and six points. Riley Taylor had two goals and one assist, while Christina Sato chipped in a goal and two helpers.

INSIDE THE BOX
-Sunday's result marked UIndy's second win versus Lindenwood this season as the Hounds topped the Lions, 16-9, in the regular season.
-UIndy was a perfect 21-for-21 on clear attempts.
-Abigail Lagos, Peyton Romig and Joey Fowler had to goals apiece.
-The Hounds' second GLVC title gives them four conference crowns (2 GLIAC) in the program's seven-year history*.
