Hounds Move to Midwest Region Championship after Davenport Win

GREENWOOD, Ind.– The No. 2 seed in the Midwest Indianapolis defeated No. 7 Davenport in the Midwest Regional first round on Monday morning, 4-0, on the Center Grove High School courts.  The Hounds move on to face McKendree in the regional championship on Tuesday morning.

It was Zac Faveri, the Western Michigan transfer, who would clinch the match for the Hounds. The graduate student serves as a leader and a spark plug to the Greyhounds team – with unmistakable energy and with a strategic play that causes any opponent he's faced to struggle – would take the singles win, over Davenport's Joel Mast in a 6-4, 6-1 win.

In doubles, the dynamic duo of Edgar Destouet and Yoann Viel would take a close 6-4 match, capped off by their signature 'shadowboxing' handshake celebration. Pedro Franca and Jason Gerweck would be the first to earn a match in doubles, with a 6-2 win.

Destouet would complete his singles match first, continuing to prove why he was named GLVC Freshman of the Year with a 6-1, 6-3 win. While Viel took the win in two 6-3 sets, continuing to serve as a staple in the Hounds lineup.

Nikolaj Talimaa, Gerweck, and Franca's matches went unfinished.
