LOUISVILLE, Ky.—UIndy softball student-athlete
Kenzee Smith earned a spot on the exclusive 2022 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Year Top 25, announced by the coaches association Monday.
Â
The Player of the Year award was created in 2015 to honor the outstanding athletic achievements among softball student-athletes throughout NCAA Division II. In 2019, the Association expanded the award to include a Player and Pitcher of the Year. The list is compiled and the award is voted on by the elected members of the NFCA Division II All-American Committee with one head coach representing each of the eight NCAA regions. To be eligible, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member.
Â
Smith currently own a 25-6 record on the season with a tidy 0.92 ERA with 237 strikeouts in 183 innings pitched. She is currently one of only 10 qualifying pitchers in DII with a sub-one ERA, and she is one of just five underclassman recognized in the Top 25 list. Smith is a repeat offender on the NFCA's watch list, as she earned inclusive in the association's Top 15 as a freshman last season.
