LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UIndy softball student-athletes
Caitlin Bunte,
Cheyenne Eads and
Brooklyn Willis earned inclusion on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II All-America Team, announced Wednesday. Bunte garnered a first-team nod at pitcher, while Eads and Willis earned third-team recognition at the outfield and utility-pitcher spots, respectively.
Bunte authored one of the greatest freshman seasons in program history. The Quincy, Ill., native was tabbed as the Midwest Region finalist for NFCA Division II Freshman of the Year after being voted the Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year, the GLVC Freshman of the Year, and the GLVC Co-Pitcher of the Year. Statistically, she ranks in the top 10 in Division II in ERA, WHIP, pitching wins and strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Willis crafted an equally-impressive sophomore campaign, breaking UIndy single-season records for hits, home runs and total bases. She hit a grand slam in a GLVC Tournament elimination-game win over Maryville and later hit .500 in the team's three regional games, including the game-winning two-run single in the regional final versus Saginaw Valley.
Eads, meanwhile, excelled both in the circle and at the plate. Her 31 pitching victories leads all Division II student-athletes, while her 38 times hit by a pitch on the year broke a 14-year old DII record.
