INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis women's soccer team hosted Northwood University for their season opener, fighting in a back-and-forth match to the end to a 2-2 draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The action was silent up until the sixth minute when
Kiki Sauceda knotted the first stat of the game with a hard shot towards the center of the net, saved by the Timberwolves Andrea Everett. Six minutes later
Chloe Noon, the freshman out of Aurora, Ill., blasted a ball to the top of the net from 20 yards out for her first career goal and the Greyhounds' first of the year.
Nearing the 19th minute, Sauceda and
Uma Yadav hammered shots at the net within 30 seconds of each other, both saved by the Timberwolves. Later in the half, freshman goalkeeper
Kendall Ellis managed another save but Northwood's Brianna Gervers put back the rebound, tying the contest at 1-1. The first half concluded with six more shots by the Hounds.
The tie was broken in the 65th minute when Northwood's Abbie Fowler drained a free shot from 25 yards out. The Hounds were down but not out, however, as they proceeded to pepper the goal with seven shots before
Maria Herrero produced the equalizer, evening the score at 2-2 with just under five minutes left in play. It was a back-and-forth battle down the stretch with neither team budging as time ran out.
