Women’s Soccer Falls to Yellow Jackets, 3-1

INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The University of Indianapolis women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets on Sunday afternoon in the team's first road match of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Yellow Jackets came out of the gate aggressive pushing deep into Greyhound territory. They capitalized on that, scoring the first goal of the contest off a 30-yard free kick by Fran Soares-Cupertino. They kept the momentum in their favor limiting the Hounds' offensive pressure, with the visitors' first shot coming off the foot of Chloe Noon in the 27th minute.

Just three minutes later it was a two-goal game in favor of the home team when Esther Dhiramo scored off a corner kick.

It was back-and-forth action to start the second half up until the 60th minute when Soares-Cupertino netted her second goal of the game to give West Virginia State a 3-0 lead. UIndy was not to be shutout, however, as Maria Herrero answered back with her second goal of the season at the 67th minute to make it 3-1. The game concluded from that point with only one more shot taken.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Yellow Jackets out shot the Hounds 10-4, with seven of their shots being on goal.
- UIndy was called on fouls twice to the Yellow Jackets' 14.
- Kendall Ellis and Makenna Nickens combined to make four saves in net.

UP NEXT
The Hounds stay on the road for their next contest, traveling to in-region Cedarville to take on the Yellow Jackets on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m.
