LEBANON, Ill – In a late-night match-up with the McKendree Bearcats, the UIndy volleyball fell in a five sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set one was a nailbiter, with the largest lead held being three points which was in the Bearcats favor 9-6. From that point forward the teams fought back and forth but Bearcats prevailed with a final three-point run to seal the deal.
That energy carried them into set two, dominating the attack with a hitting percentage of 40 percent, while capitalizing on eight attack errors by the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds jumped out early in set three 7-2 with kills by
Hannah Sabotin,
Sophia Parlanti and
Lauren Cullison. McKendree went on to fight back until the score was evened up at 17 apiece. Sabotin, Cullison and
Elizabeth Eads combined for the three of the final four points as the Greyhounds captured set three.
That momentum was the fire the Greyhounds needed as they looked in control from point one with McKendree holding one lead, a 2-1 lead at the fourth point. From the on it was a Hound train with
Grace Hegwood and Parlanti being the dynamic duo with 11 of the Hounds 25 points coming off of their combined kills.
A six-point run in the final set was the dagger in the Hounds back as the Bearcats never gave up the lead from that point. McKendree went onto ice the match 15-11 and stifle the Hounds comeback.
