CANTON, Ohio – The University of Indianapolis women's basketball team fell to Malone in their season opener, 74-61, on Friday afternoon.

Liv Becker led the Greyhounds in points with 18, going was seven-for-13 from the field and two of six from beyond the three-point line. The junior also had two rebounds, one assist, and two blocks during the contest.

Idalis Ortiz won the tip for the Hounds, with Elana Well converting for the first basket of the season. This kickstarted a 10-4 run at the beginning of the contest for the Hounds. The Greyhounds continued to lead the Pioneers for majority of the first quarter, all from within the three-point line.

Malone came out in the second quarter energized and ready to play. UIndy struggled with fouls, the allowed the Pioneers to score five points in free-throws. Malone led the majority of the second quarter and went into halftime leading 32-28.

After trailing at the break, the Hounds opened up the second half with six points within the first minute of the second half. Four of which came from Becker, two free-throws and a layup.

The Hounds struggled to keep up with the Pioneers for the final 20 minutes. UIndy only scored 27 points in the second half when Malone had 42, securing their win.

Patricia Chikamba led the Greyhounds in minutes with 33. Chikamba led UIndy in rebounding with seven.
- Wells finished the game with six assists, a team high.
- UIndy struggled beyond the three-point line. The first three-pointer wasn't made until the fourth quarter when
Jada Haines made one in with 8:47 left in the game.Â
- Fouls were an issue for the Greyhounds, accumulating 28 in the contest.Â

The Hounds will travel to nearby Ashland on Saturday to play the reigning national champions. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Kate Gymnasium.
