Chikamba, Wells Lead UIndy to Victory Over Peacocks

FAYETTE, Iowa – The UIndy women's basketball team defeated Upper Iowa 85-71 on Saturday. This was the first time the two teams faced each other and also marked Upper Iowa's first GLVC contest. Patricia Chikamba finished the contest with a double-double and Elana Wells had her second 30-point game of the season.
 
Chikamba had 13 points and 11 rebounds on the day. This is the sopohomore's first double-double of her career and the first UIndy double-double since Sadie Hill in the GLVC quarterfinal against Missouri S&T last March.
 
Wells finished with 32 points, seven boards and assists, and one steal. The junior was 9-for-19 from the field and 5-for-11 from 3-point range, both were a team high. This is the first time that a Hound had two or more 30-point games since Martha Burse in 2017.
 
INS & OUTS
UIndy went on a 13-4 run for 5:23 for the final five minutes of the first quarter to go into an early lead. Five of which came from Liv Becker. The Greyhounds finished the first quarter with a ten-point lead.
 
UIndy struggled in the second quarter with Upper Iowa closing in on Greyhounds. Peacocks gained a 39-37 led to end the half, the Hounds only scored 14 points.
 
To open the second half, UIndy and Upper Iowa went wire-to-wire exchanging the lead during the entire third quarter. Both teams finished the quarter with 57 points.
 
The Greyhounds turned up the jets in the final quarter outscoring the Peacocks 28-14. This was made possible by a 16-2 run in the final five minutes, six of these points came from Wells.
 

INSIDE THE BOX
- Jada Haines had 12 points on the day, nine of which came from 3-pointers
- UIndy outperformed the Upper Iowa from the field (30-of-66, 45.5%) and beyond the arc (9-for-25, 36.0%).
- The Hounds turned over the ball over just nine times compared to the Peacocks' 12
- Five different Greyhounds finished the contest with one steal each.
