INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis women's basketball team closed out the 2023 section of their season with an 83-71 victory over in-region Ohio Dominican.
Liv Becker and
Elana Wells were the offensive powerhouses for the Greyhounds. Becker dropped a 23 and 10 double-double and Wells scoring 20 points off a career-high 12 free throws made.
Outside of Becker and Wells, the Hounds had two more players hit double digits in scoring in
Jada Haines and newcomer
Shekinah Thomas.
INS AND OUTS
The Hounds were aggressive to start the contest, leaping to a 12-2 advantage in the first five, with
Caroline Jakaitis scoring off a dime by Haines.
The Hounds' lead continued to stay strong throughout into the second quarter of action with Thomas' first career bucket as a Hound landing just two minutes into the second period.
Action stayed at that pace from there as the Hounds entered the locker room for halftime with an 11-point lead. That advantage ballooned all the way to 18 behind a 13-6 run by the Hounds, ending with a splash by Haines.
The Panthers would mount a run of their own in the fourth, outscoring the Hounds 16-7 to bring the Hounds lead down to just six, the lowest it had been since the beginning of the contest. The Hounds would survive the onslaught ending the game on a 16-12 run behind eight points from Wells.
INSIDE THE BOX
- The Hounds shot 30-35 from the charity stripe, a season high for the team in both attempts and makes.
- With Wells' 20, she has now scored in double figures in her last three contests.
- Becker's double-double is the first of her career.
- Jakaitis' four blocks is a career high.
