INS & OUTS
Doubles was a quick and easy affair for the Greyhounds.
Diane Flament and
Maissane Aik at the No. 3 slot got the Hounds rolling with a 6-2 win. Just a minute later,
Sofia Sharonova and
Anna Novikova called game with a 6-3 victory of their own. Wrapping up doubles was
Margarita Andreiuk and
Maria Fiacan. Andreiuk and Fiacan took an early 4-1 lead and never looked back, securing a 3-0 doubles sweep for the Hounds.
Andreiuk, now out of the No. 2 slot, was dominant. Set one saw a 6-1 effort that let well into set two where she made it 4-1 early in the match. Her SBU opponent tried her best to find a way back into the match, getting it to 4-3 but the Stavropol, Russia-native shut that down, winning the second 6-3. The Bearcats grabbed victory at the No. 1 singles slot before
Lea Cakarevic made it 3-1 with a 6-2, 6-4 win out of the No. 5 position.
Flament, out of the No. 4 spot, was the decider in the match, scoring a straight sets victory, 6-3, 6-4. Flament was on fire in her first set, running to a 5-0 lead before her SBU adversary rattled off three straight game wins before Flament could close the deal. Despite the set one win for Flament, the Bearcat had all the momentum in set two, jumping to a 4-0 lead. Flament, however, refused to make it a three-set match, winning six straight games to win the fight.
Fiacan was quality as well for the Hounds, winning a tight first set 7-6. Her second set did not go as well losing 6-4, before reversing that and winning 6-4 in the final set.
Aimee Reynoso was the final match of the night, with Reynoso losing 7-5, 7-5.
