MARION, Ill. — Brandon DeWitt was special when it counted at the University of Indianapolis baseball team dethroned the Lewis Flyers by a score of 3-1 in the opening game of GLVC Tournament.
DeWitt went all nine, only giving up one run with five hits and four punch outs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was quiet in the first three frames with
Drew Donaldson,
Adam Rakestraw and DeWitt all getting hits.
It wasn't until the fourth when the Hounds got on the board off the GLVC Pitcher of the Year in Jake Karaba. A leadoff walk by
Nick Lukac was followed by a Rakestraw double into left center set the stage. In a bit of small ball action,
Will Spear bunted perfectly making it bases loaded. DeWitt ended up helping himself with a bases loaded walk to score the first run of the contest.
The game was dead silent for the next three frame until the eighth. Once again, a Lukac walk got the Hounds a base runner. The second half of the "Twin Shredders" slapped a single in center just an at bat later. A Rakestraw sac bunt and then a Spear double down the right field line made it 3-0 in favor of the Hounds.
A bottom of the ninth double plated one for the Flyers, but DeWitt shut the door on them after, claiming the Greyhounds spot in the winners bracket.
