Baseball Tabbed as #5 Seed for GLVC Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Indianapolis baseball team is heading to Marion, Ill. for the 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Baseball Championship Tournament. The Hounds earned the No. 5-seed after a 17-15 mark in conference play, ending the season with a 3-1 series victory versus the Lewis Flyers to cement their spot in this year's dance.
 


With the No. 5-seed secured, the Hounds will have a more than familiar foe in the first round of this year's bracket, matching up with the Lewis Flyers. The Hounds and Flyers will battle it out on Thursday, May 11 at 9 a.m. as the opening contest for this year's championship.

  • Lewis went 29-21 overall and 20-12 in GLVC action during the regular season.
  • Indianapolis went 32-17 overall and 17-15 in GLVC action during the regular season.
  • The Flyers and Greyhounds met in the season finale series, which UIndy took 3-1 at home.
  • Lewis is making its 26th appearance in the GLVC postseason.
  • UIndy is making its league-best 27th appearance in the GLVC postseason and also owns the most titles with six but will be looking for its first since 2016.
  • UIndy won a three-way, head-to-head tiebreaker for the fifth seed against Drury and Jewell, going 5-3 overall against the two teams, while Drury was 4-4 and Jewell was 3-5.
This year's tournament will be held at Mtn. Dew Park in Marion, Illinois, May 11-14. The tournament will mark the 43rd GLVC Baseball Championship and the first time it will be held in this venue. This year's event will once again consist of four tournament games on the first three days of the four-day, double-elimination event.
 
The Quincy Hawks, as the regular season champions, land at the No. 1-seed with UIS, Maryville and Lewis making up the rest of the seeds above UIndy. Drury, William Jewell and Missouri S&T make up the rest of the field as the six through eight seeds.

Each day of the four-day event, ticket prices will be $12 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 6-17) and students (with ID), while children 5 and under are free. There will also be a $40 all-tournament pass available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket link on the Championship homepage GLVCsports.com/2023baseball.
