Fiery Hounds Open Bobcat Classic with Pair of Wins

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Greyhounds kept rolling on Friday, improving to 8-2 on the season following a pair of victories at the Bobcat Invitational on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College.

The offense was dominant in the wins, hitting .358 in the four-set win over Bowie State before attacking at a .407 clip against the host Bobcats. Sophia Parlanti recorded double-digit kills in both contests, including a match-high 16 against Wesleyan.

Despite dropping the second set, the Greyhounds relatively cruised to a 3-1 victory to open the weekend against the Bulldogs. Lauren Cullison, who attacked at a .652 clip herself, finished with a match-high 15 kills, adding two block assists and one dig.

Marin Dixon earned the start against Bowie State, dishing out 39 assists and recording six assists over the four-setter. The freshman recorded a helper to seven separate Greyhounds, as the team hit .358 in the win.

UIndy dug up nearly half of BSU's attack attempts, with libero Lauren Peal totaling a career-best 20 scoops. Parlanti also tallied double-digits with 11, killing 13 balls on .267 hitting.

Maddie Berger impressed in her collegiate debut, recording four kills on six attempts after subbing in during the fourth frame.

UIndy 3, West Virginia Wesleyan 0
It was all Hounds in the Friday finale, as the visitors never trailed in their wire-to-wire sweep of the host Bobcats. As impressive as the offense was in the first two sets, setter Claire Morris led an offense that hit .438 in the third frame, including six more kills from Parlanti.

Elizabeth Eads finished with seven kills, totaling 12 on the day, while Sabotin added another seven as the Greyhound middles combined to hit .591 against Wesleyan. Along with Eads, fellow Southside Smackers Cullison and Grace Hegwood split 12 kills between each other.

Morris finished with 38 assists, including kills from Erica Eads and Meredith Simmons, while freshman libero Ellie Spang returned to the lineup with a match-high 14 digs.

Defensively, UIndy limited Wesleyan to .097 hitting, creating a tight block to force 19 arrant Bobcat attacks. The Greyhounds had three blocks, with Hegwood recording the lone solo stop of the evening.

MORE NOTES
Cullison (vs. Bowie State) and Parlanti (vs. Wesleyan) finished with double-figure kills without making an error in their respective contest … while it was the first meeting against Bowie State in program history, UIndy also improved to 3-0 all-time against West Virginia Wesleyan, with all three matchups resulting in Greyhound sweeps … the team's six attacking errors against Wesleyan is the lowest since it errored four times back on Oct. 26, 2019, in a sweep against McKendree.

HOUND BYTES
