Gafar Leads Hounds to Victory over Panthers

SPRINGFIELD, MO - The Greyhounds of the UIndy men's soccer team (4-0-1) 3-1 against Drury University (0-3-3) in Springfield, MO on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Hounds strong offense allowed for all three goals to be scored by different players. UIndy also put pressure on the Panther defense with a total of 16 shots, seven on goal.
 
INS & OUTS
The match started with an offensive battle between the Hounds and the Panthers with limited results for either team. Kabiru Garfar notched the first goal for UIndy at the 18-minute mark. Six minutes later Gafar helped Owen Atkison score UIndy's second goal of the half.

The Hounds came out strong in the first 3 minutes of the second half with multiple shots attempted by UIndy. Both teams continued to travel back and forth of the field. A penalty kick taken by Michael Tselios earned the Hounds their third goal of the match 20 minutes into the second half. Tselios goal helped secure the Hounds victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
  • Kieran Brown protected the UIndy goal for all 90-minutes of the game. He completed five saves, and only allowed one in.
  • Gafar recorded a goal, an assist, with five shots, one on goal.
  • Atkison notched four shots, three on goal, along with his goal during the match.
  • The defensive trio of Pierre Lurot and Niklad Thanhofer, provided a consistent presence all 90 minutes of the contest.
  • Jakob David and Brandon Johnson also stayed on the pitch for all 90-minutes.
  • The Hounds held the Panthers to only 11 shots, six on goal.
 
UP NEXT
The Hounds prepare for their long-awaited home opener on Friday Sept 22, against Rockhurst University. The match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Key Stadium.
