INDIANAPOLIS—Today was a special day at the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center for UIndy swimming & diving program. The team had the great honor of continuing the legacy of Nick Dworet in the "Swim4Nick" Memorial Meet, which saw the Greyhounds blow past nearby DIII-institution DePauw University by scores of 166-85 (women) and 186-70 (men).

SWIM4NICK
Six years ago on the first weekend in January, Nick Dworet, a swimmer for TS Aquatics in Florida that had dreams of representing Sweden in the Olympics, came on an official visit to the University of Indianapolis. He committed to the Greyhounds swimming & diving program, and the rest of the UIndy family did the same to him. A month later, the high school senior had his life taken from him along with 16 others in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.
Â
Six years later, UIndy still honors the fallen swimmer each and every day, and most especially at the annual Swim4Nick Memorial Meet. With Nick's parents Mitchel and Annika in attendance, the Greyhounds wore Swim4Nick gear to show love for the 2018 commit who leaves behind an inspiring legacy of hard work and dedication that could be seen in and out of the pool.
Â
Prior to the meet, Head Coach
Brent Noble and UIndy President Dr. Tanuja Singh presented the Dworets with a 2023 NCAA DII Championship trophy, commemorating the Greyhounds' national championship last spring in what would have been Nick's final season of college eligibility.
Â
IN THE POOL
UIndy won all 27 events in which a Greyhound competed, including three wins apiece from
Celina Schmidt and
Stefanie Markwardt.
Â
Jeron Thompson posted an impressive time in the 100 back, touching the wall in 47 flat. The time improved his B-cut standard and was good for the third-fastest mark in DII this season.
Â
Mihir Ambre became just the seventh DII student-athlete to go sub-47 this year in the 100 fly, with his winning time of 46.83 putting him in the UIndy top three all-time.
Â
In perhaps the closest race of the evening,
Isabella Revstedt out-touched
Caroline Reinke in the women's 100 fly by a mere three one-hundredths.
Â
The relays races were also tight, especially the 200 medleys. The women's quartet of
Julia Magierowska, Markwardt,
Sharon Semchiy and
Leticia Vaselli bested the UIndy B team by .09, while the men's team of
Mattia Rossi,
Sebestyen Bohm,
Elias Noe,
Austin Kehr snuck by the Greyhound A team by a quarter of a second.
Â
UP NEXT
The Hounds have just one more meet on the schedule before the conference championships. UIndy will head to nearby Fishers High School for the Butler Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 29.
