UIndy Advances to GLVC Semifinal with 3-0 Win vs. Drury

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team earned a decisive 3-0 win against Drury in the GLVC Tournament on Sunday.

When these two teams faced off earlier this year at Drury, they battled to a hard fought 2-2 draw, but today's game was a much different story.

From the jump the Greyhounds created plenty of chances, outshooting the Panthers 11 to two in the first half, and 17 to six overall in the game. UIndy also outshot Drury in these teams' first matchup against one another on Oct. 4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds started this half as perfect as they hoped when Ryan Walsh got a head on the end of Jakob David's corner kick, which gave the Hounds a 1-0 lead in the third minute of the match.

UIndy continued to dominate on the offensive end the rest of the second half.

In the 22nd minute, Lucas Bedleg's low driven shot was saved by Drury's Camden Meyer to prevent UIndy from adding another to its lead.

Joey Longo created a chance of his own just seven minutes later when his low skimming shot hit the outside of the left post going out of bounds for a goal kick to keep the UIndy lead at 1-0.

The Hounds added another eight shots to its tally in the first half, ending the half with 11 shots and three on goal, but were unsuccessful in doubling their lead.

UIndy started the second half exactly how they played the first half, creating two more chances by Roman Beko and Kabiru Gafar that were both saved by Meyer in the 47th and 51st minutes.

But the Hounds attack finally led to a goal when Gafar's cross from the right side of the box found a wide open Demetris Giannakopoulos on the back post for a tap-in to give the Hounds a 2-0 lead over Drury.

Drury made a late push to get the Panthers back in the game, but Abdullah Iqbal, Lui Bull, and Mason Platts' efforts in the 80th, 82nd and 84th minutes were all saved by Ionas Giovanidis.

The Panthers efforts were not enough, as Lucas Bedleg added a third to the Hounds' score with three seconds left in the match. August Abrahamsen tallied the assist on Bedleg's counter-attack goal, and secured the 3-0 win for UIndy.

INSIDE THE BOX
- Giannakopoulos and Walsh both scored the first goal of their careers today vs. Drury.
- Gafar earned his third assist in the last five games, and his fourth overall for the season.
- David earned his team leading ninth point of the season with his assist today on Walsh's goal.
- Abrahamsen tallied his second assist of the season.
