INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy volleyball team defeated Missouri S&T in three straight sets to snap a seven-match losing streak on Saturday from Ruth Lilly Fitness Center. It marks the first win the Greyhounds have earned since against Rockhurst on
Oct. 5.
Sophia Parlanti led the way in a balanced attack, totaling a match-high 11 kills, while
Ellie Spang (16) and
Macy Bruton (14) finished with double-digit digs.
INS & OUTS
The Hounds hit .311 in the contest, while holding the Miners to just .154 on the attack. The Greyhounds shined during the second set, downing S&T to stretch their lead to 2-0. The Hounds hit .333 with 18 kills during that second frame, with Parlanti recording nearly half of her match total.
Sophomore
Riley Laine was nearly perfect in the sweep, finishing with nine kills on 10 attempts without an error. The middle also contributed 2.5 blocks and a pair of service aces.
Claire Morris directed the efficient offense to the tune of a .311 hitting percentage over three sets, adding six of her own kills to 35 assists. The redshirt junior also scooped up five digs.
Defensively, Bruton made nine of her 14 digs in the second set. Fellow defensive specialists
Lauren Peal and
Allie Wuestenfeld tallied seven scoops apiece.
INSIDE THE BOX

Kayla Guthrie and sophomore
Erica Eads entered the match in the second set, each securing a kill.
- There were just four ties and two lead changes over the course of the match, half of which came in the finale frame.
- Four Greyhounds contributed at least one service ace, including Spang's team-leading 34th.
- UIndy had seven blocks compared to S&T's one; freshman
Kelsey McKenney led the Greyhounds with five, including one solo stop.

Maddie Berger and freshman
Madeline Lynch combined for 14 kills on the outside on a .345 hitting percentage.

"I'm proud of our effort today. We needed to get the monkey off our back. We've been grinding this month trying to figure out how to get on track and today we did that. We're ready for the last few weekends of the GLVC season. I don't think teams want to see us get hot."
