UIndy Trio Garners All-America Honorable Mention

BROOKFIELD, Ill. – The Don Hansen Football Committee recently released the 2024 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America teams, with UIndy student-athletes Ian Burr, Markez Gillam and Clay Schulte earning honorable mention. The trio led UIndy to its fourth-ever 10-win regular season this fall, as well as a third consecutive playoff appearance and GLVC title.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.

The news marks the third national recognition for Schulte, who was recently named All-America First Team by both the D2CCA and the AFCA. The Super Region 3 Defensive Player of the Year finished the season with an even 100 tackles—including 14.5 tackles for loss and four sacks—while adding three interceptions and a forced fumble. Schulte spearheaded a unit that ranked sixth in Division II in rushing defense and 19th in scoring defense. He was also voted the GLVC Defensive Player of the Year and is now a three-time All-GLVC honoree.

Gillam ranked third in the nation in kickoff return average at 33.5 per attempt and was the one of only three Super Region 3 players with two kickoff return TDs this year. The Reynoldsburg, Ohio product broke off a 96-yard return touchdown versus Truman in week 2 before taking back a kickoff 100 yards versus Missouri S&T in week 10. An All-GLVC First Team selection at return specialist, he also averaged 13.6 yards per reception and 11.7 yards per rush this season.

Lastly, Burr ranked 12th in the nation in field goal percentage while his 77 points scored on the season ranked seventh in the conference. An All-GLVC first teamer at place kicker, Burr also handled punting duties for the Hounds, averaging 36.8 yards per attempt while dropping 12 punts inside the 20.
