AMERICUS, Ga. – The No. 4-ranked University of Indianapolis baseball team faced it's first defeat of its young season, dropping a 5-1 contest to the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes. The Hounds attempted a late rally, etching across their lone run in the top of the ninth, but it was too little too late as the Hounds fell.
Â
Carter Nowak, in his second appearance in relief work, was quality from the bump, going five innings, giving up no runs on only four hits while punching out four batters.

INS & OUTS
After
Drew Donaldson's top of the first double was left on base, the Hurricanes were the recipient of some poor control by Greyhounds starter
Jackson Kirkpatrick as an inning opening walk, followed by two straight singles loaded the bases for the Hurricanes with no outs. A walk and a shallow popup falling in right field kept the bases juiced and sent two Hurricane runs across the plate. A hit by pitch scratched across the last of the inning before the damage got any worse.
Â
A double play with a runner on third gave the Hurricanes their fourth run in the second frame of action. The score stayed 4-0 up until the fourth, where a pair of inning-opening walked induced a pitching chance for the Hounds, bringing in Nowak. After a pair of strikeouts, a single up the middle past Nowak sent the runner from second home, just before
Nick Lukac gunned the runner from first at second.
Â
The scoring drought from the Hounds was finally ended in the ninth, when
Zack Williams doubled deep down the left field line, scoring Donaldson from second. That was the lone Hound run as the game ended 5-1.
