Late-Inning Heroics Not Enough as Hounds Fall to Hurricanes 15-13

AMERICUS, Ga. – The No. 4 University of Indianapolis baseball team dropped their second straight contest to the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes, this time in a score-fest, with the final score ending 15-13. The Hounds attempted a late rally, scratching across four runs in the top of the ninth, but it wasn't enough as UIndy dropped to 1-2 on the young season.

Easton Good was the offensive leader for the Greyhounds, going 3-5 with three RBIs, with all three of his hits going for extra bases. He was just a single away from hitting for the cycle in the contest.

INS & OUTS
After three frames of scoreless ball, the Hurricanes were the ones to break the drought. With runners at first and third, Georgia Southwestern got their first runs off of the Greyhound starter Dawson Gabe, poking a ball just past third base. A double in the next at bat scored two more runs, leaving it 3-0.

A big inning from the Hounds was looming as in the top of the sixth Nick Lukac got the Hounds rolling with a ball to deep left center that was just inches from going out, but still brought home both Zack Williams and Caleb Vaughn. Later the frame Spear did the same, slapping a ball through the third base-shortstop gap to score two more Hounds.

A Good triple brought Spear home, leaving the sixth frame with a 5-3 Greyhound lead. That lead did stand long as the Hurricanes answered with a mammoth 10-run inning in the bottom of the sixth, ballooning their lead to 12-5.

A Williams moonshot to dead center with Vaughn and Drew Donaldson on chipped into that lead in the top seventh. Armen Torosian later grabbed his first RBI of the season with a single into left field, leaving the Hounds down 12-9.

A two spot in the bottom of the eighth by the Hurricane accelerated their lead to 15-9. Hampton's first bomb in the Crimson and Grey ignited a rally in the top of the ninth, with the two-run blast bringing the Hounds to within four. Later that same frame, Good blasted his own two-run home run bringing the game to it's final 15-13 score.
