INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 69-67 defeat on Saturday afternoon in Nicoson Hall, following a senior day celebration against Rockhurst.
Prior to the game, the program recognized seniors
Jada Haines,
Caroline Jakaitis,
Jodi Mullins,
Idalis Ortiz, and
Ilani Williams-Harris.
Rockhurst's Keegan Sullivan sank a deep 3-pointer at the top of the key with just 0.4 seconds remaining to lift the Hawks to victory.
INS & OUTS
Saturday's league bout featured six lead changes and nine ties, all primarily in the second half.
Liv Becker knotted the game at 62 apiece with three minutes remaining on a fast break pass from Williams-Harris to set up the stunning finish.
Ortiz secured her game-best 11th rebound with 13 seconds left, as Haines headed to the charity stripe after a Rockhurst foul. The Hawks, and Sullivan specifically, made the Hounds pay in the waning moments with the buzzer-beater despite great defense from
Patricia Chikamba with the heave.
UIndy went into halftime on a hot streak, orchestrating an 11-0 run with a couple buckets from Haines.
INSIDE THE BOX
- In addition to her 11 boards, Ortiz recorded a career-high three steals.
- Becker and Haines shared the team lead with 16 points apiece.
