Hounds Fall to Peacocks in Last-Second Shot

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy women's basketball team fell to Upper Iowa, 77-79, on Thursday night. The Greyhounds are now 11-10 on the season and 8-7 in conference play.
 
Jada Haines had a standout night for the Hounds. The graduate student finished with 21 points, a career-high at UIndy. Haines was 6-for-12 from the floor and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
 
INS AND OUTS
UIndy came out strong at the end of the first quarter. The Greyhounds went on an uncontested 11-0 run in the final four minutes. Jada Patton contributed six points and Haines had five. The Peacocks came into early foul trouble allowing the Hounds to attempt 10 shots from the charity stripe. UIndy took advantage of this making nine free throws, leading the Upper Iowa 20-11 at the end of the first 10 minutes.
 

The Greyhounds continued to lead the Peacocks until the fourth quarter. UIU continued to close the gap until they tied with the Hounds at 77 in the final seconds of the game. Upper Iowa made a clutch two-pointer in the final second of the game, securing their win.
 
INSIDE THE BOX
- Elana Wells and Jada Patton both finished in double digits. Wells finished with 18 and Patton had 14.
- UIndy had a successful night from the free-throw line, going 15-of-16.
- The Greyhound bench had an impressive night when they hit the floor. The bench contributed 49 of the Hounds' 77 points.
- UIndy was able to take advantage near the basket, finishing the contest with 37 boards. Upper Iowa was not far behind with 34 of their own.
 
MORE NOTES
Brooke Evenson was the leading scorer for Upper Iowa, finishing with 22 points. Emerson now has 1,000 points in her career as a Peacock. ... This game caps the first-ever season series between the two teams. UIndy and Upper Iowa both earned a win in enemy territory.
 
UP NEXT
UIndy will welcome Truman to Nicoson Hall on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tip-off is slated for 12:30 p.m. During the contest, UIndy will induct its newest class into the UIndy Athletics Hall of Fame.
