LACONIA, Ind.—The UIndy men's golf team took second place at the "FIndianapolis" Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday. Led by
Maverick Conaway, the all-freshman lineup made a late push, combining for its best score of the week with a third-round 285 before finishing two back of the top spot.
The tournament, co-hosted by UIndy and the University of Findlay, was held at Chariot Run Golf Club in Laconia, Ind., Monday and Tuesday. Six men's teams and seven women's squad competed in simultaneous events.
INS & OUTS
Conaway posted three straight red numbers, carding scores 68-70-71 to finish at -7. The Tipton, Ind., native shaved three strokes off the individual lead Tuesday before settling two back of medalist Caleb Bond of Ferris State.
Recent
GLVC Player of the Week Ben Keil orchestrated another solid week, finishing at -3 and tying for third. He capped is week a second-round 69 and a final-round 70 to force his way into the top three.
Freshmen
Simon Engman and
Cameron Young finished at +3 to share 11th place in the 42-man field, while
Alexander Nestun rounded out the team scoring at +9 and T-25.
Four Greyhounds competed as individuals, with freshman
Caleb Michaels pacing the group at +9. Fifth-year senior
Ethan Stanley was close behind at T-27, followed by
Jackson Watkins (T-32) and
Noah Wolfe (T-39).
