AUSTIN, Texas—UIndy swimming & diving student-athletes Stefanie Markwardt and Celina Schmidt were named to the 2023-24 Academic All-America® Team, with Markwardt earning first-team inclusion and Schmidt garnering a second-team nod. Selected annually by College Sports Communicators, the prestigious honor is bestowed on the country's top student-athletes for their combined performance in the pool and in the classroom.
 
Markwardt returns to the Academic All-America® First Team list after earning the honor last year at West Florida. This season as a Greyhounds, the Niceville, Fla., native was part of two fourth-place relay swims at Nationals, contributing the All-America swims by both the 400 medley and 200 free relay teams.
 
Schmidt, meanwhile, won two individual event titles at the NCAA DII Championships, becoming just the second-ever UIndy woman to win two individual national championships in a single national meet.
 
Markwardt is a grad student with a 4.0 GPA in Exercise Science, while Schmidt is a sophomore who owns a 3.82 GPA in Business Administration and Management.
