SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 30-ranked University of Indianapolis women's tennis team is beginning their journey to a fifth-straight Great Lakes Valley Conference women's tennis championship title this Friday.
It will be a familiar start to the tournament as the Greyhounds once again begin their championship run against the west's 4-seed in the Quincy Hawks. The Hounds started their journey against the Hawks last year, dropping them 4-0 on route to title No. 4 in a row.
The win against Quincy began a run for the Hounds where they also downed SBU 4-2 and then No. 45 Drury 4-2 in the championship.
The top-four teams based on highest divisional winning percentage from each of the GLVC's two divisions – East and West – earn a spot in the eight-team, single-elimination tournament. Quarterfinal action will take place on Friday, semifinal matches will be conducted on Saturday, and the Championship match will be contested on Sunday.
The Hounds are led by a group of newcomers in
Tyffaine Pais,
Benedetta Sensi and
Ana Hollweg, the first two of which remain as the only Hounds in the ITA singles rankings. Sensi rides a seven-match win streak heading into the tournament.
The GLVC Tennis Championship Tournament will once again be streamed live and free on all GLVC Sports Network platforms, including GLVCSN.com, iOS/Android mobile apps, and Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Android TV OTT apps.
