BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The UIndy women's triathlon team continued its maiden season Saturday, taking on an intercollegiate field at the Duquesne Invitational / Beaver Country Tri Cup in Beaver Falls, Pa. The Greyhounds combined to place seventh overall and second among Division II schools.
Â
I'm really proud of how the team raced," beamed Head Coach
Doug Robinson. "Our grouping was outstanding; our top five girls all finished within 90 seconds of each other. That is going to be the strength of our team this year is how close together our top-five grouping is."
Â
That grouping allowed the Hounds to best all DII opponents except Lenior Rhyne, an experienced team and a former DII champ.
Â
Graduate-student
Lex Wilhelm paced the Hounds, traversing the sprint course in 1:11.42 to take 30th overall—fifth among DII student-athletes. The remainer of the UIndy top five finished in short order, including
Gabrielle Harrell (6th vs DII),
Ainsleigh Cardone (7th),
Lillian Sunbury (8th) and
Hanna Burke (10th).
Â
Miah Sosenheimer,
Katie Dolen and
Sydney Rhodehamel also had competitive races.
Â
MORE HOUND BYTES
"Every week the team continues to get better and better," shared Robinson, "and this week was no exception. They really are starting to become triathletes and starting to realize their potential. We saw some really great competition this week and competed really strongly."
