Abrahamsen Game-Winner Lifts Greyhounds Past Hawks to Stay Perfect in League Play

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's soccer team continued its excellent form to open GLVC action with a 2-1 win on Friday night against Rockhurst. August Abrahamsen provided the game-winner in the 85th minute, knocking a shot past the Rockhurst goalkeeper following a save.

The Hounds extended their unbeaten streak in GLVC play to 10 games dating back to last season, and also extended the Hounds unbeaten streak against Rockhurst to seven straight victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED
This game was a tale of two halves, as the Hounds controlled the play for almost the entire first 45 minutes due to the strong 60-plus miles per hour winds of Hurricane Helene.

The Hounds first half pressure started early, as the team recorded five total shots, four shots on goal, in the first 25 minutes of play.

Their pressure on the Hawks backline was rewarded when Roman Beko's right footed shot got the Hounds on the board first in the 29th minute, from a layoff assist by Lucas Bedleg to give the Hounds the 1-0 lead.

The second half was much more of a back and forth game with the winds dying down significantly.

Both teams were deadlocked, trading blows back and forth, forcing big saves from both goalkeepers; UIndy's, Ionas Gionvanidis and Rockhurst's, Franco Brunoro.

Abrahamsen finally broke the deadlock in the 84th minute, when Joey Longo's shot was saved and followed up by Abrahamsen to give the Hounds the 2-1 lead.

Giovanidis came up with a big save in the closing minute to secure the 2-1 win for the Hounds.

INSIDE THE BOX
August Abrahamsen scored his fourth career goal – his first of the season.
Roman Beko recorded his fifth assist of the season – his fourth career assist.
Jakob David, Brandon Johnson and Beko led the team in total shots tonight with three each.
This is the fourth time this season that the Hounds have recorded 15 or more shots in a game.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will look to extend their GLVC win streak when they take on William Jewell at Key Stadium on Sunday Sept. 29.
