INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's soccer team opened Homecoming Weekend with a grueling 2-1 loss to Rockhurst Friday night. With the remnants of Hurricane Helene hitting the city with a constant downpour and wind gusts of 60-plus miles per hour, the Greyhounds managed a 9-3 lead in second-half shots but could not produce the equalizer.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy brought a three-game unbeaten streak into the match but found itself down 2-0 after 30 minutes of play. Rockhurst got the benefit of the wind in the first half, guiding two shots to the back of the net.
Freshman back
Clare Simmonds got the Hounds on the board just before the half, beating Rockhurst keeper Taylor James in the 43rd minute to make it 2-1.
The halftime score would not change, however, as both teams were held scoreless in the second half. UIndy fired nine shots in the final 45 minutes, including three on target, but could not generate the needed score.
