Greyhounds Sweep In-Region Panthers to Close Weekend

INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy volleyball team split on the final day at the UIndy Invitational falling to Indiana (PA) then coming back to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan. The Greyhounds finished the weekend 2-2.
 
Claire Morris hit a career milestone today. The junior passed the 1,500 assists mark after dishing out 65 assists in the Greyhound's two matches. Morris is now 13th in program history for career assists.
 
 
Sophia Parlanti was named to the weekend's all-tournament team, averaging 3.29 kills/set on .246 hitting.

MATCH 1 | Indiana (PA) 3, UIndy 0
Coming off a five-set loss earlier in the day to Tiffin, IUP hit .400 on the attack against the Hounds, totaling 47 kills. The Crimson Hawks also played stout defensively, digging better than 40 percent of UIndy's 99 hitting attempts and blocking nine attacks.
 
Morris finished with 27 assists during the contest and rounded up six digs.
 
Freshmen Lizzy Short and Caitlin Blomberg hit the floor for the first time in a UIndy uniform. Both Hounds were able to start their career with a kill. Short grabbed two and Blomberg finished with one.

Morris reached her milestone in the Greyhound's second match of the day. She dished out 38 more assists to her career stats and now has 1,508 total.
 
The Hounds hit .243 on the attack, recording their best hitting percentage of the weekend. UIndy also held KWC to a paltry .096 hitting, forcing 18 errors and blocking six Panther attacks.
 
Maddie Berger joined Parlanti with double-digits kills, finishing with 10. The senior Parlanti hit .308 from the outside in the sweep, totaling a match-high 11 kills while making seven digs.
 
Lauren Peal took over libero duties for the third set, recording four of her eight digs in the final frame. Sophomore Ellie Spang, who wore the jersey in the first two games, talled 12 digs.
 
UP NEXT
UIndy travels to Owensboro, Ky., next weekend to compete in the Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational. The Greyhounds will face three in-region rivals, including Thomas More and Lake Superior State before a second bout with the host Panthers. The Hounds begin action on Friday at 10 a.m.
