INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's and women's track & field teams started off 2025 by hosting the Gerry England Invitational on Friday, Jan. 17, and competing at the Indiana State Fairgrounds' Hoosier Horsepower Classic the following day.
SATURDAY
Saturday's field included some tough competition for the Greyhounds; Illinois, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Miami (Ohio), and Ball State were in attendance. Fellow GLVC-rivals Illinois Springfield and Lewis competed with Hillsdale, another in-region competitor.
The day was highlighted by
Josue Le Cadre's and
Felix Rivet's record-breaking performances. In his first track & field meet as a Greyhound, Le Cadre broke the 800m school record at 1:49.28, earning him a first-place finish. With this time, the Frenchman also passed the NCAA DII provo mark of 1:52.31, now holding the nation's third-best time.
Rivet took down the 3000m record. The Frenchman clocked 8:21.48, beating the nine-year-old record by two seconds. Rivet took seventh in the event, keeping up with runners from Illinois and passing by student-athletes from Ohio State and Butler.
In the field,
Alex Meyer was just short of breaking another Greyhound record. After clearing 2.06m in the high jump, the sophomore attempted to make 2.09m. The current school record is 2.08m and has been held since 1996 by Tom Noe. Meyer was mere inches from clearing the height but was unsuccessful. Despite falling short, he set a new PR and reached a DII provo. Earlier in the day, Meyer also set a PR and hitting provo in the long jump after reaching 7.38, earning him second place.
On the women's side,
Emily Sonderman placed ninth in the 400m with a time of 57.34.
Hailey Orosz set a new PR in the 3000m and placed 12th after clocking 10:10.25.
Ellie Lengerich competed in three events for the Greyhounds: 60m hurdles (18th, 9.31), high jump (12th, 1.64m), and long jump (14th, 5.44m).
Zoe Pentecost competed against some skilled throwers in the hammer throw. Pentecost placed fifth with a mark of 18.99 meters; she trailed fellow elite DII athlete Katie Sayles from Hillsdale, who reached 19.10m. The senior is now fourth in the nation in the event, just behind Sayles.
