UIndy Continues Hot Streak with Weekend League Wins

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy volleyball team upped its win streak to four this weekend with a pair of GLVC victories over visiting Upper Iowa and Truman from Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.

After their Friday night sweep of Upper Iowa, the Greyhounds came away with an exciting four-set triumph in the dog fight versus Truman on Saturday. In addition to its modest winning streak, UIndy has now won six of its last seven contests, including five sweeps.

Paige Parlanti led a flurry of impressive Greyhound performances on Saturday, finishing with 17 kills and 23 digs, while Kaitlin Fasbender tallied nine and 12, respectively, herself. Makenzie Pflederer led the attack on Friday with 12 kills and a .500 hitting percentage.

UIndy 3, Upper Iowa 0
Fasbender and Maddie Lynch contributed key kills to help the Greyhounds to build a strong 10-3 advantage in the early going. A Pflederer service ace and block from Lauren Gips maintained the home team's momentum. However, the Peacocks responded, narrowing the gap with a series of kills and capitalizing on the Greyhounds' attack errors to tie the score at 13 apiece. The Greyhounds sealed the opening set with a 25-19 win, capitalizing on their opponent's errors.

The second set opened with a decisive momentum shift; Lynch and Pflederer were instrumental, each contributing multiple kills with the support from setter Carly Fonda. The Greyhounds continued to maintain offensive pressure, as service aces from Parlanti and consistent terminations from Lynch and Pflederer extended their lead. Upper Iowa struggled to counter and UIndy took a commanding 2-0 lead.

The third set opened with Upper Iowa taking an initial lead, but the Greyhounds countered effectively as Pflederer registered multiple kills to keep the score close. A series of errors by the Peacocks, coupled with key blocks from Lynch and Fasbender, allowed the Greyhounds to gain momentum. As the set progressed, Claire Morris facilitated a balanced attack, with Caitlin Blomberg contributing crucial kills. Despite a brief surge by Upper Iowa, the Greyhounds responded with a decisive run, highlighted by kills from Riley Laine and Paige Boettcher.

UIndy 3, Truman 1
UIndy rallied from a first-set loss, with a standout fourth-set attack percentage of .314 to complete the victory.

Despite trading points early in the second, a service ace by Pflederer increased UIndy's margin to 5-2. Truman responded with a series of points, taking a brief lead at 7-5 after an effective kill from Molly Lambert.

UIndy fought back, with Maddie Berger's offensive efficiency knotting the score at 8-8. The teams exchanged leads, with UIndy staying resilient through Fasbender and Lynch's key contributions, leveling the score at 21-21. The closing moments saw UIndy maintaining composure, securing the period 27-25 after a decisive kill by Parlanti. The set's final point was reversed after review.

The third set was much the same, as UIndy regrouped with key contributions from Berger and Parlanti to narrow the gap to 18-17. UIndy then tied the score at 20-20 after a series of errors by Truman. The teams exchanged points in a tense back-and-forth few minutes, with the score once again tied at 25 apiece. UIndy came away with yet another 27-25 game win, with Berger and Parlanti earning key kills down the stretch.

UIndy controlled the majority of the fourth, with an assisted block by Berger and Lane extending its lead to 17-9. The Hounds withstood Truman's attempts to rally, securing the match with Laine's fourth and final kill of the afternoon.
