UIndy Splits Sunday Doubleheader Against Hillsdale

WESTFIELD, IN – The No. 5 UIndy baseball team went 1-1 in games two and three against Hillsdale. The Greyhounds won game two 7-6 in seven innings, and fell in game three 18-10 in nine innings.

Sunday's doubleheader was moved to Grand Park Sports Campus in Westfield, IN due to poor weather conditions at Mt. Dew Park in Marion, Ill.

GAME 2 | UIndy 7, Hillsdale 6
This one was close throughout, as both teams got on the board in the first three innings. An error from Easton Good brought in the game's first run for Hillsdale in the first, while the Hounds brought in four runs in the first three frames with RBIs from Austin Bode, Chase Mason and Armen Torosian.

Hillsdale knotted things up at four after a three run fourth inning, but that lead didn't last long after Luke Smock hit his first home run of the season, and Bode drove in Good to give UIndy a 6-4 lead after four innings.

Dawson Gabe, Brian Robertson and Drake Downing all helped the Hounds close out the game. Gabe went 5.1 innings with six strikeouts, while Robertson and Downing came in for relief to close out the final frames.

After Lukac's double in the fifth to give UIndy a 7-4 lead, Hillsdale made one final push in the bottom of the sixth.

The Chargers brought in two runs, but Downing was able to get out a jam with runners on second and third with a fly out to preserve the Hounds 7-6 lead, and eventually picking up his second consecutive save.

GAME 3 | UIndy 10, Hillsdale 18
The second game of Sunday's doubleheader was all Chargers, as they scored 18 of the game's first 22 runs, including a nine run fourth inning.

The Hounds made seven pitching changes after starting pitcher Nic Besecker pitched 3.1 innings. Andrew DeWitt, Carter Nowak, Jacob Flaherty, Ryan O'Born, Steven Jones and Max Shelburn all made their first starts of the season today for UIndy. Dylan Kaminski also got into the game for UIndy, pitching a one hit eighth inning and recording two strikeouts.

Brayton Bowen and Smock looked to lead a comeback, each bringing in runs and scoring runs of their own in the Hounds five run ninth inning, but the effort wasn't enough as the Chargers took game two of Sunday's doubleheader 18-10.

UP NEXT
UIndy will look to close out the final game of the team's four game series against Hillsdale with a win on Monday Feb. 24 at Grand Park Sports Campus.
