ST. LOUIS – The UIndy baseball team dropped both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Maryville at Weber Baseball Field. The Greyhounds now move to 9-11 overall on the season, and 3-3 in conference play.
Armen Torosian and Nick Lukac were the two Hounds to record hits in both games, while Cole Hampton notched an RBI in each game on Saturday.
With today's win for Maryville, it gives the Saints only their third two game win streak against UIndy since 2013.
GAME 2 | UIndy 3, Maryville 5 (7 innings)
Maryville started this one out strong by getting five runs on seven hits in the first three innings off of Diego Cardenas. Cardenas only gave up one hit the rest of his six innings pitched, while also chalking up five punch outs.
The Hounds didn't get on the board until the sixth inning when Hampton and Chase Mason drove home two runs to cut into the lead to make it 5-2. Mason was one of four players for UIndy today to record a hit in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
Easton Good looked to lead a late seventh inning comeback after his RBI double drove home Torosian, but Tré Hondras, who had two hits on the day, flew out to end the game and wrap up the Saints' 5-3 victory. This is Maryville's first win against UIndy since March 13, 2023.
GAME 3 | UIndy 2, Maryville 7 (7 innings)
UIndy started this one quickly after dropping game two of the series, knocking home two runs in the second inning with Hampton's RBI single, and Dom Brown's sacrifice fly to get UIndy out in front 2-0.
But that lead didn't last long, as Maryville jumped back out in front 4-2 after the bottom of the second, thanks to a solo home run, an RBI single, and two bases loaded walks. The Saints tacked on more runs in the fifth and sixth frames to extend their lead to 7-2 after six.
After the Hounds offensive output in the second inning, UIndy only mustered three hits against Maryville's Ryan Hoshaw, who pitched a complete game where he racked up six strikeouts.
Bennett Rogers and Nic Besecker were the two Greyhounds on the bump today, combining for eight hits against and eight punch outs, but also giving up seven runs in their combined outings.
