ST. LOUIS – The UIndy baseball team drubbed Maryville 17-5 today, giving them the split of the weekend series against the Saints, and moving themselves to 4-3 in GLVC play.
This is UIndy's largest margin of victory over Maryville since 2013.
Six Greyhounds had multi-hit games today including; Austin Bode, Chase Mason, Dom Brown, Easton Good, Luke Smock and Nick Lukac, and all but Bode recorded at least two RBIs on the day.
GAME 4 | UIndy 17, Maryville 5
Maryville scored the game's first three runs, before the Hounds' bats woke up in the fifth inning. Brown, Good, Mason and Lukac all drove in runs in the fifth to push UIndy out in front 5-3. The Saints got those two runs back in the fifth and sixth innings, but after that it was all UIndy.
Both starters pitched into the fourth inning of today's game, with Maryville's Ty Rasuer racking up eight strikeouts, and UIndy's Peyton Plym only allowing three runs with three strikeouts. But the difference in this one was the pitching relief efforts of Austin Bestul and Frankie Klemm who only allowed four hits and struck out six over the final five innings.
The Hounds used 12 runs in the final three innings to push past Maryville. Good was a big part of the late game, scoring with a two-run home run and an RBI single, to give him six RBIs on the day. Mason Lukac, Smock, and Tré Hondras all get in on the action for UIndy too, all of them knocking in the remaining nine runs for UIndy.
Those 12 runs in the final three innings are the most runs scored in a three inning span for UIndy this season. And It is also the first time this year in which the Hounds have had four players record at least three hits in the same game.
