UIndy Sweeps Missouri S&T in Friday Doubleheader

INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy took both games of Friday's doubleheader against Missouri S&T, which extend UIndy's win streak on the season to four games, with three of those four wins against GLVC opponents.

Today's two wins also extends the Greyhounds' win streak over Missouri S&T to six consecutive games, and marks their 10th win in the last 12 meetings against the Miners.

GAME 1 | UIndy 7, Missouri S&T 6
Trailing headed into the sixth inning, UIndy had only managed two runs on five hits, but composed a late game rally that began with Hondras' three run home run to left field that kick started the Greyhounds' comeback by cutting the Miners' lead to 6-5 after six innings. Hondras ended the first game with three hits on five plate appearances.

The Hounds tacked on two more runs in the seventh to take a 7-6 lead, with Armen Torosian's sac bunt caused a throwing error by the Miners' Nate Wodka that scored Chase Mason, and Dom Brown's sac fly that scored Cole Hampton.

After Carter Nowak's day ended with four strikeouts for UIndy, the Hounds brought in Frankie Klemm and Austin Bestul in relief, who combined to pitch 4.2 innings, giving up no runs, only allowing two hits, and striking out three.

The GLVC Pitcher of the week, Bestul, has been on a tear in his last three outings, recording three wins in 10.2 innings pitched, only allowing six hits and one run. He now sports a 5-1 record on the year, after picking up the win today to seal UIndy's 7-6 comeback victory over Missouri S&T in game one.

GAME 2 | UIndy 5, Missouri S&T 1
The story in game two was the lefty pitcher, Bennett Rogers who pitched a complete game with also recording a career high 13 strikeouts, and only allowed five hits and one run. Rogers previous career high of 10 strikeouts he set earlier this season against Illinois Springfield (3/15/25) where he picked up his only other win of the 2025 campaign.

Rogers 13 punch outs today are also the most in a game for UIndy since Seth Spencer racked up 14 strikeouts against Maryville (5/19/23).

UIndy didn't score a lot of runs in this one, but the Hounds used two big plays from Missouri S&T transfer, Mason and senior first baseman, Torosian to nab their five runs in this one. Mason hit a three run home run to straightaway center in the first, while Torosian hit a two run RBI double down the left field line in the fifth, giving UIndy their decisive 5-1 victory over Missouri S&T.

UP NEXT
UIndy will play another doubleheader tomorrow, with bad weather expected on Sunday. Tomorrow's doubleheader will start at 12 p.m. with the second of the two games expected to start 30 minutes after the end of the first game.
