Greyhounds Split Saturday Doubleheader Against Missouri S&T

INDIANAPOLIS – UIndy split Saturday's doubleheader against Missouri S&T, taking game three, 6-4, and falling in game four, 9-2. This weekend's series marks the Hounds' third series win on the season, and their third consecutive series win over the Miners.

GAME 3 | UIndy 6, Missouri S&T 4
This was a back-and-forth game that saw three lead changes. Neither team mustered many hits in this one, but that didn't result in a shortage of runs. The teams combined for all 10 runs in this one in the first four innings. Chase Mason got things going early for UIndy with a two run RBI double through the left side gap, and a sac bunt that led to him reaching on an error and scoring Tré Hondras, to square the game at three after three innings.

Cole Hampton then put UIndy in front 4-3 with an RBI in the third inning, but the Miners responded with a lead off first pitch home run in the fourth inning to tie the game headed into the bottom of the fourth. With the game all square, Austin Bode smashed a two run home run to right center field in the bottom of the fourth to push UIndy out in front 6-4.

This is Bode's third home run this week, as he hit two home runs in Tuesday's game against Purdue Northwest (3/25/25). He now has four home runs in his short stint with the Hounds.

The game came to a halt with scoring once both starting pitchers' days ended in the fourth inning. UIndy's Diego Cardenas' day ended with four innings pitched, only allowing two earned runs with a punch out, while Missouri S&T's Jake Schisler ended with 4.1 innings pitched and two strikeouts.

Nic Besecker, making his third relief appearance this season, pitched 2.1 innings, only allowing two hits. Austin Bestul came in with one out in the seventh to close things out with a double play to give UIndy the 6-4 win, and pick up his first save since his save last season against Truman (4/27/24).

GAME 4 | UIndy 2, Missouri S&T 9
The Miners took control of this one from the start, grabbing seven runs in the first four innings to jump out to a 7-2 lead. The Hounds' two runs came on a Nick Lukac solo shot to left center, and a Luke Smock RBI ground out.

Missouri S&T held the Hounds to four hits in total in game four with a strong collective pitching effort to keep UIndy at bay. UIndy also had a strong performance from their relievers today, after Payton Plym went four innings as the starting pitcher. The relief combo of; Brian Robertston, Dylan Kaminski Frankie Klemm, and Will Melby combined to allow six hits, two runs and recorded four strikeouts over the final five innings.

The Hounds' relief pitching effort wasn't enough, as Missouri S&T took game four, 9-2, but dropped the overall weekend series 3-1 in favor of UIndy.

Natola Hawthorne, who was the first female to officiate a Division I baseball game, was the home plate umpire today for game four of the series.
