QUINCY, Ill. - The UIndy baseball team split the first two games of their series against Quincy on Saturday. The Hounds opened the day with a close nine-inning contest and followed with a seven-inning win.
GAME 1| UIndy 6, Quincy 8
The Greyhounds fought back against the Hawks' lead in the second inning despite being down 1-5.
Cole Hampton coaxed a walk out of Quincy's pitcher and
Armen Torosian on base after a single, both Hounds were able to get into scoring position on a wild pitch.
Ryan Degroot stepped up the plate and singled the ball into the left side to bring Hampton home. UIndy was able to grab its third run of the game after
Easton Good was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Hounds were able to take the lead in the third frame.
Chase Mason and Hampton walked to start the innings. Torosian stepped up the plate and hit a bomb over the right field fence to give the Hounds a 6-5 lead.
The Hawks were able to regain the lead in the bottom of the fourth, keeping the score close at 6-7. The game remained a pitching battle for the final four innings, but Quincy remained strong to beat the Hounds.
Nic Besecker came to the mount in the first to relieve the struggling offense. Besecker pitched 5.2 innings and only allowed two runs off five hits.
Austin Bestul was the closer for UIndy, pitching 2.1 innings. Besecker was given the loss and is now 1-3 on the season.
GAME 2 | UIndy 8, Quincy 1
The Greyhounds started the second game off hot. Lead-off hitter
Austin Bode, hit a homer to kick-start the game. Torosian went on to hit a two-run bomb in the second inning to give the Hounds the 3-0 lead.
Bennett Rogers held the Hawks back during the seven-inning game. Rodgers threw a complete game and did not allow a run till the bottom of the seventh inning. The sophomore was stellar on the mound, only allowing five hits and two walks against 27 batters.
UIndy closed out the game with five runs in the seventh.
Trè Hondras and
Nick Lukac brought in three runners off singles, with Hampton hitting a sacrifice fly to bring in one.

The Greyhounds continue their series against Quincy tomorrow with another doubleheader. The third game of the series is slated to start at 1 p.m. EST, with the final game following at 4 p.m. EST.
