QUINCY, Ill. – The Greyhounds played two extra inning games today, splitting both games against the Hawks, and splitting the overall weekend series 2-2.
This weekend's two wins for UIndy give them five wins in the last nine outings against Quincy, and their ninth GLVC win of the 2025 campaign.
GAME 1 | UIndy 5, Quincy 6
Easton Good got the bats going in the fourth inning for the Hounds with a single down the right-field line before taking second and being driven home by a Nick Lukac single. Lucac would steal two bases of his own and score the Hounds' second run off a Cole Hampton single to right field.
The Greyhounds added to their total in the fifth inning with two runs from Austin Bode and Good off an error from the Hawks. Lukac would also make his way home for the Hounds third run of the inning from another error by the Hawks.
Cardenas collected his eighth strikeout of the game to open the bottom of the fifth. The Hounds would end the bottom of the fifth with a 4-6-3 double play to close out the inning.
The Hawks found their groove in the bottom of the sixth, bringing in four runs on seven hits to tie the game at five. Austin Bestul took the mound to collect the final out of the sixth, striking out Matt Mateo. Bestul went the final 1.2 innings for the Hounds, allowing only one run and no hits.
The score would stay all square at 5-5, until Joe Huffman scored the winning run for the Hawks off a Jake Vitale sacrifice fly, clinching the 6-5 extra innings win for Quincy.
GAME 2 | UIndy 13, Quincy 7
The Hounds bounced back in game two, scoring early off Good's base hit that sent Bode in for a run in the first frame. But the Hawks quickly responded with a Matt Mateo's solo home run, and David Broughton's RBI single to put the Hawks up 2-1 after the first.
Good was driven home on a Lukac RBI single, before being brought home on Hampton's RBI single to give UIndy the 3-2 lead after three. Broughton and Fandre then knocked in the next two runs of the game in the third and fifth frames to give the Hawks a 4-3 lead.
The Hounds found an answer in the top of the sixth with an explosion of runs from the bats of Bode, Chase Mason and Luke Smock to get UIndy back out in front 6-4. Brian Robertson came in for relief at the bottom of the inning for UIndy, recording both of this strikeouts to get the Hounds out of the inning.
Smock pushed the Greyhound lead to 7-4 with a home run in the top of the seventh, but the Hawks refused to go away after a three-run home run from Broughton to knot the game at seven.
The Hounds found themselves back on top after a Chase Mason walk with bases loaded, and was followed by a Hampton another bases-loaded walk, before Torosian's left side single brought home Lukac to give UIndy a 10-7 lead.
With the Hounds leading 13-7 into the bottom of the eighth, Besecker picked up a strikeout before reliever Will Melby came in to finish the game for the Hounds with one strikeout to seal the win for the Greyhounds.
UP NEXT
The Hounds will now head back home to host the team's Back the Pack and K-Out for Cancer game, which will honor UIndy pitcher Dawson Gabe's ongoing battle with cancer. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m. on Friday April 11.
