Greyhounds Cruise Past Bulldogs in K-Out for Cancer Game

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy baseball team dominated Truman, 15-5 in today's K-Out for Cancer game, which was in support of UIndy pitcher Dawson Gabe who is currently in an ongoing battle with cancer. Today's game was also part of the UIndy Back the Pack initiative, which highlights a specific event for each UIndy Athletics program.

Bret Perry notched his first career hit today for the Hounds when his RBI single to shallow center ended the game in the bottom of the seventh via run rule. Seven of the nine starters, including Perry, recorded a hit today, with six of those seven batters also recording an RBI against the Bulldogs' pitching rotation today.

GAME 1 | UIndy 15, Truman 5
UIndy started this one off strong from the get go, knocking in 14 of the game's first 16 runs in the first five innings. Eight different batters reached base for UIndy in the first five innings, with Armen Torosian and Easton Good both recording two hits in that time frame, combining for four RBIs on those four hits. Good and Torosian are also first and second in total RBIs on the season for the Hounds, with 58 total between the two of them.

Along with the hot hitting from UIndy, the team also recorded a season high 12 stolen bases, which is the team's most in a game since 2013. Along with the team stealing 10 bases, Tré Hondras led the way with five stolen bases of his own, bringing his season total to 14. Hondras' five stolen bases are also the most by an individual in a game since 2013. Chase Mason had two, while Good had three stolen bags, with Cole Hampton and Eli Burkhart both grabbing the other two of the team's 12.

The Hounds also put together a quality combined pitching effort, with Frankie Klemm making his second start of the season. Klemm went 3.2 innings, and recorded a season high five strikeouts. Grant Kelly, Nic Besecker and Ryan O'Born all came in for relief of Klemm, and combined to close out the remaining 3.1 innings, allowing only three runs on three hits and tallying three punch outs to finish the 15-5 win for UIndy in game one.
