INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy baseball team soared past Truman today in both games of today's doubleheader thanks to two dominant pitching performances from Diego Cardenas and Bennett Rogers. The Hounds only used two pitchers today combined between both games, with both pitchers combining for 21 strikeouts, eight hits and only one run.
This is also UIndy's fourth straight win in a row this season, and their 10th consecutive win against Truman dating back to the 2022 season.
GAME 2 | UIndy 7, Truman 0
Game one of Saturday's doubleheader was plain and simple, Greyhound dominance from start to finish. Diego Cardenas led the way for UIndy with a complete game, two hit shutout. Today's outing for Cardenas is his second complete game pitched this season, but today is the first win he's picked up on the bump in those two starts. He finished the day with 101 pitches, eight punch outs and one walk with only one runner reaching past first base all game.
Cole Hampton led the way for the UIndy bats today with two hits, and three RBIs. Hampton got the Hounds' first run of the game in the second inning with an RBI double before being brought home by Luke Smock to give the Hounds a 2-0 lead after two. Hampton kept his hot start going in the fourth, doubling the Hounds' lead to 4-0 with a two run home run to deep left field.
Austin Bode and Smock capped off the Greyhounds' win with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Smock singled up the middle, knocking in Hampton, while Austin Bode hit a no doubt two run home run off the UIndy ARC bubble in right field to seal the Hounds 7-0 win.
GAME 3 | UIndy 5, Truman 1
The Hounds continued to roll in game three of the series, doing most of their damage early in this one, getting four of their five runs today in the first three innings. Bret Perry, Good, Hampton and Lukac were all the aficionados of the Greyhounds' four runs. The freshman Perry has gotten a hit in two of his three games this weekend, and recorded an RBI in both of those games. His RBI single in the second brought home Dom Brown to get UIndy in front 3-0.
Lukac doubled in the third to left center to get UIndy ahead 4-0, giving him his second hit of Saturday's doubleheader, and his first RBI of the day.
The Hounds' bats weren't the only story in this one, as Bennett Rogers tossed the team's second complete game of the day, racking up 13 strikeouts, matching his career high of 13 which he posted just earlier this year against Missouri S&T. Along with matching his career high of strikeouts today, this is also the third consecutive complete game start for Rogers for the Hounds.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the fifth with an RBI double to make it 5-1 UIndy, but Hampton got that run back in the next half inning to close out the win for UIndy with a moon shot to left center, giving him his second home run of the day, and the Hounds' second win in as many games against Truman.
