INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy baseball team wrapped up the series sweep against Truman on Sunday with a 14-4 run rule victory. This is UIndy's second run rule win of the weekend.
This is the 11th time this season the Hounds have scored double digit runs in a game, and the third time in their last five games they've reached the double digit mark. Along with the high octane offense, the Greyhounds were active in finding ways to get on base today, with 10 batters reaching a bag today.
GAME 4 | UIndy 14, Truman 4
The Hounds kept the trend going of starting out hot in games, driving in 13 runs in the first four innings to take a 13-0 lead. Cole Hampton notched four RBIs in his first two at bats, with a two run shot to deep center field in the second inning, and an RBI single in the fourth. Austin Bode was also a key contributor to the Hounds hot start with five RBIs of his own on three singles. Chase Mason, Easton Good, Nick Lukac and Tré Hondras all drove in the remaining runs in the first four frames.
Along with the hot start for the bats, the pitching performance of Austin Bestul, Carter Nowak and Jacob Flaherty kept the Bulldogs at bay through the first five innings. The three right handers combined to allow no runs, four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. Seven of those eight punch outs were swinging strikeouts.
After the Hounds picked up their 14th run of the game with a bases loaded walk in the sixth, the Bulldogs didn't go away quietly. They scored four runs in the seventh with four consecutive bases loaded walks, before Brian Roberston came in relief to close out game four with three straight strikeouts thanks to Robertson's coveted slider.
