Smock's Walk-Off Lifts Hounds Over Davenport

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy baseball team took home a 13-12 win over Davenport in the first game of the teams' four game series. This one saw three lead changes in the final three innings, including the final lead change, a walk-off two run RBI single to left field for Luke Smock.

This is UIndy's first game at home this season, with their first seven home games all being moved due to weather.

INS & OUTS
The Panthers' bats came out hot, scoring eight runs in the first five innings off of UIndy's Diego Cardenas, while the Greyhounds were held to one hit through four innings. But the bottom of the fifth saw UIndy bring home six runs, all with two outs, to cut into the lead, and make it 8-6 after five.

Most of the back-and-forth action in this game came after the sixth inning, where in the bottom of the seventh, the Greyhounds knocked in four more runs courtesy of; Austin Bode, Joey Humphrey, Nick Lukac and Smock. After seven, the Greyhounds held onto an 11-8 lead.

Peyton Plym came in for relief for the Hounds in the sixth inning, pitching a flawless three innings, giving up no runs, hits, walks and recording a punch out.

In the 9th, Austin Bestul came in for the save for the Greyhounds, but saw four runs from Davenport, including a 10 pitch at bat from the Panthers' Chase Kemp that ended in an RBI single to right field, and put Davenport back out in front 12-11.

Easton Good, Bode, and Chase Mason were the first three batters to reach base for UIndy in the bottom of the ninth on a double down the right field line for Good, and walks for Bode and Mason. Smock was next to bat for UIndy, and on the sixth pitch of the at bat, and a full count, Smock's slap hit into right field brought home two runs to give UIndy the 13-12 win over Davenport.
